The best and worst highlights of last week.

The Best:

1- My plumber of a husband did the all the dishes on Saturday.  I didn’t unload or load a single thing.  (And the sky opened up and the angels sang in a heavenly chorus.)

2- I unveiled the beautiful mysteries of canning tomato sauce to a few of my canning rookie friends.

3-  My five year old’s toy ran out of batteries and now I no longer have my days set to theme music from Dora the Explorer.  And all it took was two long years.

4-  I did all the grocery shopping in solitary splendor.  It was quiet, relaxing, and I didn’t have to order a single person to stop picking their nose.

5-  The kids are enthralled with my lesson plans of Ancient Egypt.  They are full of intellectual curiosity and a (mistaken) belief that I know everything.

The Worst:

1-  A thunderstorm caused the two older children to sleep incredibly poorly.  Which then resulted in a day filled with overly tired, whiny, emotional outbursts.

2-  I sliced the top of my thumb, rendering it unfit for duty, and have since realized that every single job in the universe (with the exception of typing) is done with that small appendage.  Every.  Single.  Job.

3-  The five year old has developed a deep and abiding fascination with Sharpies.  It’s like waiting for a bomb to explode.

4-  I experimented on a salsa verde recipe only to find the entire thing inedible.  I wasted time and ingredients on what turned out to be a horrible mistake and had to dump the whole shebang in the garbage.  It made me cry on the inside and vow to never stray from the tried-and-true recipe again.

5-  The children finally found their harmonica that has been safely hidden, I mean lost for the past few months.  So not only do they insist on playing it from morning until night, they also fight with each other over who gets to play it first.  It’s a double whammy.

Your turn gentle reader.  What was the best and worst of last week for you?

Worst was sending a still somewhat teary 5 year old to kindergarten again & again. Best was quiet moments while she and the other two were in school!

Worst thing ever of this week was finding out my daughter had lice at 10pm at night on a Saturday with no lice shampoo and have to wait till Sunday to call everyone
Best moment was when we found no more nits or bugs.!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are my doppleganger. My jaw dropped at number 1 and I’m trying to find a way to have this post up on his computer when he gets home from work. Too obvious? Dudette has a Santa on a skateboard that sings Holly Jolly Christmas ALL YEAR. It finally died and we keep ‘forgetting’ to buy batteries. Grocery shopping alone; seriously heaven.

With the Sharpie thing, those Mr. Clean sponge pads do work with a lot of elbow grease, but not on faces, unfortunately. Finally, Dudette has decided that she wants to be a harmonica teacher when she grows up (she owns 2), along with being a surgeon, race car driver and extreme motorcycle rider. Doppleganger. I’m telling you.

  4. The best thing? Well, I sent an email to you a few days ago, so the contents of that email share my best thing. (Did you get the email? Please tell me that you got the email!)

The worst thing? My two-year-old confiscated the bowl of raspberries off of our kitchen counter. They ended up in many other places besides her mouth.

I still vote for the woman who dealt with head lice, though. ;)

I got the email! And I am really excited to get started on the email this weekend. All in all that email should be your best highlight of possibly this entire year. I am beyond thrilled for you (and happy to be able to “help” in some tiny capacity.)
As for the raspberries that is tragic on several fronts. There are none left, there are no doubt messes everywhere, and did I mention there are none left? Tragic.
